Kotling Bumper plate
Bumper plate – reinforcement in drywall
Description
The FireSeal bumper plate consists of a tabbed plate with a folded edge. The sheet is rolled into a bumper which is fitted into the opening and a bead of Flex [FS 3000] fireproofing compound is applied on either side under the fold before the sleeve is pushed fully into the hole. Finally, the flaps are folded out on the opposite side. Regardless of the hole size, the sleeve is easily customized on site.
Area of use
In terms of fire resistance, a wall with double plasterboard on each side of a steel stud resists 60 minutes of fire, i.e. fire class EI 60. Now, the openings for cables, pipes and ventilation ducts often have to be cut. All such openings constitute a weakening of the fire compartment wall and the opening must therefore be reinforced/caulked.
In addition to the necessary reinforcement of the wall, the brace also provides a restraint for the fire seal to restore the strength and function of the fire compartment.
